Saliendo de Mae Hong Son en dirección sur, hay una pequeña carretera que se adentra en las orillas del río Pai. La carretera es solitaria y se encuentra en buen estado, es un agradable viaje de unos 15 km en los que no ves a nadie y donde te ronda todo el rato la incertidumbre de saber dónde terminará toda esta aventura. 

In the surroundings of Mae Hong Son, there's a small southbound road that enters the bank of Pai River. The road is in good conditions and you can feel the solitude of driving across the valley with a bit of uncertainty as is not easy to find anybody while driving. Sometimes I wondered if the road really was bounded anywhere...

Mae Hong Son es una pequeña y coqueta ciudad que se encuentra bien escondida en el extremo Noroeste de Tailandia. Limitando con la frontera birmana, durante muchos años ha estado más cerca de sus vecinos birmanos que de la propia Tailandia. De hecho, todo el área perteneció a los primeros reinos Lanna, el embrión de lo que más tarde sería el reino de Siam (la Tailandia de hoy) y en toda la provincia la etnia predominante es la Tai Yai, más conocida como Shan en la actual Myanmar, junto con otra de las etnias más famosas por su tormentoso pasado y presente: los Karen.

Mae Hong Son is a small and charming city located in a secluded corner at the far Northwestern Thailand. Bordering Burma for several hundred kilometers, during many years the city was closer to Burma than it was to Thailand. In fact, some centuries ago, all the area belonged to Lanna Kingdoms, the first ancestors of Siam Kingdom and  precursor of  today's Thailand. In all the province, the main ethnic group is Tai Yai or Shan, the same as in neighbouring Myanmar's Shan State, together with another of the more famous ethnic group due to its uneven and disturbing past and present: The Karens.

Este es el primer post bilingüe inglés-español que voy a escribir en el Blog. Hay dos razones fundamentales para ello. Una es que no quiero perder la costumbre de escribir en inglés, lo cual es bastante difícil viviendo en Tailandia, donde poca gente habla el idioma. Otra es intentar ampliar mi red de seguidores, ya que con mucha gente que me encuentro en los viajes y quieren saber qué es lo que hago, se encuentran con la barrera idiomática para poder leer mis escritos. ¡Así que vamos a intentarlo!

For the first time in this Blog, I'll write the post both in Spanish and English. Two are the main reasons for that. The first is that it’s difficult living in Thailand to use English in the day to day life. Common people, as a rule, don`t speak fluent English and even less they write it. The other one is that I want to reach another type of followers, people from English speaking countries and also people I have met during my travels. Sometimes it’s interesting to tell them that I write in a Blog but at the end language barrier becomes an issue for them to keep the interest in the long term. So, let's try and see what it comes out from this!
